QPSS 2012

THEME: THE IMPORTANCE OF LEADERSHIP COMMITMENT IN MAKING SAFETY A CORE VALUE

The 3rd Qatar Process Safety Symposium (QPSS) was held on 13th and 14th March 2012 at Texas A&M University at Qatar. ConocoPhillips, along with TAMUQ, sponsored the event and they will continue to sponsor the symposium for five years, having signed an agreement in November 2011. ConocoPhillips begins this year its long-term partnership with TAMUQ for the annual QPSS. The theme of 2012 QPSS Edition was “The Importance of Leadership Commitment in Making Safety a Core Value”.

The event attracted more than 120 delegates from Qatar and aboard. 18 speakers from US, UK, UAE, Qatar and Indonesia from several different companies came together to discuss incident case studies, best practices in process safety, research on process safety, incident investigations and safety success stories.

Toufik Benmosbah, chief safety, environment and quality officer at Qatargas, delivered the plenary keynote lecture titled ‘Building a Process Safety Culture’ on the first day. Dr. Sam Mannan, professor and director of MKOPSC at TAMU gave the keynote address on the second day on the role of education and research in training future leaders committed to safety.
