QPSS 2018
THEME: EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
The 9th Qatar Process Safety Symposium (QPSS) was held on 8th and 9th April 2018 at the Intercontinental Doha Hotel. The theme of 2018 QPSS Edition was based on Emergency Preparedness and a very famous quote by Benjamin Franklin was used to highlight the theme, “Are we ready? By Failing to Prepare You Are Preparing to Fail”. 2018 marked the 5th anniversary of the MKOPSC-Q and so during the conference a special poster was presented for the acknowledgment and appreciation of the center.
The event attracted more than 240 regional and international delegates. 25 different international and local speakers from 16 different companies came together to discuss emergency preparedness.
Dirk Faveere, senior vice president of health, safety, and environment at ConocoPhillips, delivered the keynote presentation on emergency response preparedness on the first day. On the second day Dr. Geoffrey Maitland, Professor of Energy Engineering in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, and former President of the UK Institution of Chemical Engineers presented the keynote address.
At the conference, undergraduate and graduate students from the TAMUQ Chemical Engineering Program presented 6 research posters to the industry. The symposium provided excellent networking opportunities for delegates from industry, regulatory institutions and academia.
